Call For Synchronicity
Submissions
The Fall/Winter 2008 issue of
Synchronicity will be published in mid-September. ADC members please
email submissions of articles, news and calendar events by
Friday, August 22, 2008 to Wesley@alabamadancecouncil.org. Photos
must be 300 dpi and labeled with a title and photography credit, if
applicable.
Our special feature for the Fall/Winter issue
will be 2008-2009 season program announcements, and we want to make
sure your company/studio is included! Please send any brochures or
season announcements in electronic format.

C.J.'s Dance
Factory, home of the Prattville Ballet, invites you to open house
every Thursday in August from 5:30-7:00 pm. Voted the

Bagua Seminar at Children's Dance
Foundation
CDF is thrilled to announce a Bagua
Seminar led by guest teaching artist and dancer Jennifer Harmer on

Bagua class description: Bagua
strengthens and primes the body for movement - whether that be walking,

mental experience. You will be guided on how to smoothly incorporate
the rich wisdom of the Ancient Sages and their time tested spiritual,
health and martial practices for self-empowerment into a modern day

AROVA for a Master Class Series with Professional Modern
Dancer/Choreographer Leah Smiley Tubbs
AROVA
Professional Contemporary Ballet welcomes Leah Smiley Tubbs to
Birmingham for a two-day master class series. Leah is a native of
Birmingham and graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts. Her
professional credits include work with Dayton Contemporary Dance
Company II, Cleveland Contemporary Dance Theatre, Lula Washington Dance
Theater, Donna Sternberg and Dancers, and LA Choreographers and
Dancers.

Fuzión Dance Artists Hosts Guest Artist LaMicheal
Lenoard
LaMichael Leonard Jr. (1981) is a
current member of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. He
graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the prestigious New World
School of the Arts in Miami, Florida. Since his days at NWSA, Mr.
Leonard has been dancing, teaching, and setting his own choreography on
dance and musical theatre troupes in the Florida area - West Coast
Theatre, Booker High School for the Visual and Performing Arts and the
NBA's Miami Heat Dancers, among others. In 2006, after dancing with
Fuzion Dance Artists in Sarasota, Mr. Leonard moved to New York City to
join the world renowned Martha Graham Dance Company. He danced solo in "
Night Watchman" and danced lead in the modern classic, "Diversion of
Angels" touring around the world and performing in some of the worlds
most recognized theatres, including The Acropolis in Athens, Greece.
Mr. Leonard also worked with New York based choreographers Errol Grimes
and Buglisi Dance Theatre. Since joining BTJ/AZ Dance Company, LaMichael
was featured in a PUMA commercial, PUMA print campaign and helped create
two new works; "A Quarreling Pair" and "Another Evening - A Serenade, A
Proposition" where he is a featured performer. Mr. Leonard also danced
Mr. Soto in the critically acclaimed work, "Chapel/Chapter",
choreographed by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. Mr.
Leonard continues to teach and choreograph on a national level and is
always ready, eager, and excited to grow and flourish as a person and
important artist in the 21st century.

Get Rhythm Programs Offers Djembe
Class
Get Rhythm Programs is excited to
announce a Beginning/Intermediate Djembe Class starting THIS FALL at
the Children’s Dance Foundation (1715 27th Court South, Homewood,
AL 35209). In this class, you will learn West African Rhythms, Kassa,
Soko, and KuKu (Traditional Arrangements). Classes begin
September 3 and continue on September 10, 17, and 24, and
October 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 - Every Wednesday, 7-8pm.
Cost:
$125 for 9-week class Payment will be due at FIRST class (sorry,
no drop ins) Bring your own djembe or you may rent one for $5 per
class Class is suitable for ages 16 and older

American Dance Guild Announces Performance Festival 2008
The American Dance Guild invites you
to attend the annual Performance Festival September 11-14,
2008. The Festival schedule is Thursday - Saturday, September 11-13, 2008
@ 8pm and Saturday & Sunday matinees,
September 13 & 14 @ 3 pm at Dance New
Amsterdam, 280 Broadway, 2nd Floor,
Manhattan. Admission at the door: $20,
$15/ADG Members, students, seniors. Tickets
also available online at www.americandanceguild.org. Master classes: $12, $10/ADG
members.
The ADG Performance
Festival 2008 offers a feast of new choreography along with tributes to
two modern masters, Murray Louis and Anna Sokolow. The Opening Night Gala on Thursday, September
11th, will include a special tribute to living dance legend, Murray
Louis. Guest artist Peter Kyle will dance Mr. Louis’ "Frail
Demons." Former Louis company member Elizabeth Fisher returns to New
York, from Hawaii, to dance a solo from "Figura" that was originally
created for the Limon Company. Mr. Louis will be present. A reception
will follow the performance. Each evening in the lobby, video of Mr.
Louis and Ms.Sokolow's work also will be shown.
Friday September 12 continues the
excitement with works by the inimitable Anna Sokolow. Jim May, Artistic
Director of the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble will present "Session For
Six," a jazz-influenced work, and the mesmerizing, final quartet from
"Lyric Suite," two works that demonstrate her artistic range and
musicality.
The
festival offers a stellar roster of wildly diverse and
inter-generational choreographers -- the antic Pooh Kaye, meditative
Nai-ni Chen, classic modern Bill Evans, lyric Thomas/Ortiz and an
outspoken Alexandra Beller, to highlight only a few. American Dance Guild Performance Festival
2008 continues the Guild tradition of bringing together artists from
across the nation and internationally for performances and master
classes. Come celebrate the dancers of the present, savor the

Join The Vulcan Performers
Are you
an up and coming dancer in the Birmingham area? The Vulcan
Performers are looking for the top male and female dancers to join our
group. We have produced six professional shows with dance styles such
as contemporary, ballroom, ballet, latin, hip hop, tap and more. We
also perform for promotions such as Rave Theaters "Hairspray" and
"Mamma Mia" exhibitions, and corporate events. We will produce our
seventh show on December 13, 2008 entitled, "Vulcan Performers-Naughty
or Nice Holiday Classics".
What is your talent???? For girls,
we like to see a solid ballet background, but capable/flexible enough
to dance other styles. For guys, we will train the ones that are
interested that do not have a large dance background.

Foundation (CDF). Don't throw away your gently-used, outgrown

13, Birmingham - Vulcan Performers Holiday
Charity Dance Show December 13 at the Highland Conference Center. The
Vulcan Performers are planning their next event and would like to
include other dance company exhibitions. Dancers in Birmingham always
