June 1-July 31: Birmingham Ballet Academy offers a variety of camps and summer intensives from June 1-July 31. Programs are available for ages 2 1/2-4, 5-11 years old, and ages 11 - Adult Intermediate-Advanced. Dancers can register for one or more weeks. For specific information on dates for each age group, times, and fees, please click "more" below.

June 4-August 3: Grebel Center for Dance offers the following Summer Sessions: Princesses & Princes Camps for 4-7 year olds, half-day, June 18-29, July 23 - Aug. 3

Junior Camp Intensive for 8-12 year olds, full-day, June 4-15 and July 9 - 20

Senior Camp intensive for 12 & up with pointe, full-day, June 4 - August 3.

June 25-July 6: Junior Camp is a great opportunity for returning students ages 8-12 to stay in shape and prepare for the upcoming school year. For students new to the Alabama Ballet's Royal Academy of Dance program, it's the perfect way to preview the syllabus, make new friends and even get to meet some of the teachers. Participants should bring a sack lunch each day. Camp ends promptly at 3pm.

June 25 - July 6, 2012 Monday through Friday, 10:00am - 3:00pm.

June 11-July 16: Restoration Arts Dance offers a choreography class for experienced dancers (minimum age 16) who desire to learn inspirational contemporary ballet & lyrical choreography for the purpose of ministry. Classes are Mondays, 7:00-8:30pm, at Children's Dance Foundation.

July 23-August 10: Does your little one dance around the house pretending to be Cinderella or the Sugarplum Fairy? Is "Barbie Swan Lake" in heavy rotation on your DVD player? Then send your child to Tutus & Tiaras at the Alabama Ballet. Children ages 4- 7 will take an age appropriate ballet class, create ballet-oriented crafts and learn how ballet dancers tell stories with pantomime. Session I: July 23 - July 27, 2012; Session II: July 30 - August 3, 2012; Session III: August 6 - 10, 2012.

The National Endowment for the Arts has announced the exciting news that Al Head, Executive Director of the Alabama State Council on the Arts, has been awarded the 2012 Bess Lomax Hawes NEA National Heritage Fellowship Award for Traditional Arts Advocacy. This is a very meaningful national award representing the legacy of Hawes' work. Throughout his career, Al has worked tirelessly to preserve and present the traditional arts and cultural heritage of the South.

Early Registration Ends July 31: The Performing Arts Exchange, or PAE, is an annual performing arts booking, showcasing and professional development conference, managed by South Arts and hosted by a different eastern city each year. PAE is the primary marketplace and forum for performing arts presenting and touring – artists and work, ideas, learning and information – in the eastern US. Our purpose is to connect artists with audiences by fostering excellence in all aspects of presenting and touring the performing arts.
