It is so easy to get caught up in our own lives with our little gripes, aches and pains, it's too hot, blah, blah, blah. Please take a moment to praise those that gave all for our freedom.   Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors,  and tortured before they died.
Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. 

Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.
Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.
They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.

What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.


Eleven were merchants,


Nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated, but they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.


Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and  trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.  (All three of the Georgia signers)

At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General

George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.

John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished.


So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these true American Patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they paid.

The line dance Marathon at Best Friend Park Gym had 30 dancers in attendance.

Good to see Joanne as she has had to work during the last few line dance marathon’s we’ve had at Best Friend Park.  Michael Thompson taught “Freak A Little More” by Scott Blevins done to “Dance to the music” by Sly and the family stone.  Some people already knew this dance but we needed a refresher.  Because we had some TRUE beginners at the event Pepper taught an easy “No Name” 16 count dance done to “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepson and “You Don’t know your Beautiful” by “One Direction” but it can actually go to just about any music.  We also went over “Wrong Way” by Barry and Dari Ann Armato and did the dance to “Drive By” by TRAIN.  It really fits well to the music and there is only one - 4 count tag on the front wall where we just stop for 4 counts.  Thanks to everyone that brought food and for those that stayed and helped clean up!  We actually got out of there before midnight!


John Robinson will be stopping by Best Friend Park Gym in Norcross on his way back from “Fun In The Sun” to teach a workshop on Tuesday, July 24 from 7-11pm.  This is a real treat to have such a wonderful and fun choreographer drop by so come out and learn some new dances from “Mr. Showcase” himself!  Cost is $6/person for Gwinnett residents and $12/person for non-residents.  You can register on line at; call 770.417.2212 to pay by credit card or pay on the night of the event.

The Dance Bunch plans to be at WILD BILL's in Duluth on Wednesday and This is the week of the monthly VFW dance in Conyers on Saturday night.



On Saturday, the dance hall of choice will be the Veterans of Foreign Wars facility in Conyers GA.   This is a couple and line dance event normally held the first Saturday if the month.    Keep in mind this is BOTH couple and line dance.  Be SURE you follow dance floor etiquette please. 


Doors open at 7 PM and cost is only $5


Bring your music disc in case they do not have a song you want to dance to.  


Directions:   From 285 take I-20 going east toward Augusta to Exit 80 which is “West Ave”., Take a  left across the bridge so you are on the north side of I-20. (Obviously if coming into Conyers from the east you would turn right).  


About a block north of I-20 and the first stop light, turn left on to Dogwood Road, (There is a now closed “Mrs. Winners Chicken” on the far right corner where you make this turn)!!   


Follow Dogwood around a couple of curves, past the Ramada Inn to “VWF Drive” and turn right.  VFW Drive is a small street so closely watch for it.  


The VFW is a 1 story white building on the right  up VFW Drive about 1 long block

Four levels of dance classes are offered & all dances are done at Wild Bill's.

Basic Beginner (for new dancers - 7:50 to 8:50 PM)

Progressive Beginner ( 6:45 to 7:45 PM)

High Beginner (6:45 to 7:45 PM).

The Internet Café is open for drinks and delicious sandwiches and snacks before and during classes.

Line dance lessons begin at 7:30 PM.

Even if you're a new dancer, you can stay on the floor and do easy to follow dances with Rose for 1 hour after lessons!

Always a party and usually a live band in the Crown Lounge along with pool tables, large screen TV's, and it's own bar.

Remember to visit the RK Café (just past the Crown Lounge) for good food!

Thanks SO MUCH to those of you who came last Friday, June 29th for my line dance lessons!!!  It was FUN dancing’ with everyone and we learned THREE (3) NEW dances that I had not taught at Legends yet – WOW!!!


I had a GOOD TIME dancing’ and unfortunately, I left around 11:30 pm and V.I.C. still had not arrived : (  I was told that he would get there around 12 midnight.  Dancin’ Tweety was wore out from all the dancing’                      :                                       )


I TAUGHT:  *She’s A Firecracker* – Choreographed by Sylvia Schell – 32 count, 2 wall, beginner/intermediate line dance – Music:  “Firecracker” by Josh Turner, *Questions Answered* – Choreographed by Larry Bass – 32 count, 4 wall, beginner line dance – Music:  “Mr. Know-It-All” by the Kentucky Headhunters & *Love’s Gonna Make It* – Choreographed by Dan Albro – 32 count 4 wall, beginner social cha line dance – Music:  “Love’s Gonna Make It Alright” by George Strait.  Everyone seemed to enjoy these dances.  I WILL REVIEW all three (3) again this Friday, July 6th.

1. Dancers, we have CHANGED the dance rules at Craze Tavern to just DANCE CONTEST. We feel there not enough line dancers coming out to support JUST a line dance contest. So, come swing dance, west coast, line or just shake your grove thing and you might win. There will NOT be a contest in July. The last Friday night in July will not be a country night. Our next contest will be August 31st. 


Country music lovers and dancers. Craze Tavern opened up and purposely had you dancers in mind by making sure there is plenty of room to dance. This is a nice place to come enjoy a Friday evening. No cover, non smoking, great menu. But, even though just two months after opening, the lack of support by the dancers is starting to change the mind of the owners. If dancers don't want to support the club, the bar will add more tables and not worry about keeping a dance area open and even a chance of country being dropped from their entertainment. So, this is your chance to support a nice place in the area or you'll loose it.

Fri, July 13 - Atlanta Rhythm Section - adv tix starting at $20 - The Atlanta Rhythm Section... ARS... In the annals of rock and roll, where do they fit? They put out 15 albums of excellent original material, and consistently put on entertaining live shows-both of which helped establish a broad if not huge fan base. They had some big hits and have been a major player in the Southern Rock scene. But is that the whole story? In some circles, maybe. But for those who've really gotten to know their music over the years, there's a lot more to the story. ARS was paired with contemporaries Lynyrd Skynyrd as the successors to the Allman Brothers - carrying the mantle of "Southern Rock" in the late 70s. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, it may have made sense at the time. But performing songs that were more musically diverse and having hits that had a softer, pop sound, the "Southern Rock" label was a mixed blessing and many of their unique musical accomplishments became lost in a genre that has lived on to this day-but never really fit ARS. An Alternate View Here's some other ways to look at ARS. They weren't out to be rock and roll stars-they were accomplished studio musicians working as a group. They were said to be more influenced by music coming out of England than other music in the South. They shared musical stylings with the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac-both in the quality of songwriting and recorded performances. They were excellent musicians who tried to stretch themselves-think Steely Dan or Little Feat. In many ways, these associations make as much or more sense than any grouping with their Southern Rock kindred. But the music of ARS only reached a mass audience on a couple of occasions. The result: an outstanding song catalog and the talented men responsible for it have been largely overlooked. When those songs are heard, and those talents recognized, the case can be made that ARS are the epitome of all the good things that the phrase "classic rock" implies

The Sunday group classes in July are designed for the beginner and will focus on the basic level 1 moves for Foxtrot and East Coast Swing. Classes are held at Total Training Gym & Yoga Center, 750 North Chase St., Athens.  There will NOT be a Friday night date night class in July.


 Group Classes At Total Training Sundays July 15th and 22nd Level 1 Foxtrot Basic smooth ballroom style dancing2:30 to 3:30 PM


Level 1 East Coast Swing Fun party dance style with cool move  3:30 to 4:30 PM  Cost is $30 per person for each 2 week session  or $50 per person for both sessions  Email me to reserve your slot in this class  Fee is payable at the first class  


Intermediate West Coast Swing   Thursdays  7:30 PM   Cost $10  (this is a drop in class but you need to know the basic pattern)

FRANK TRACE  IS LOOKING FOR YOU: HAVE YOU REGISTERED YET?? To all you line dancers from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and beyond.  The 5th Annual Gardendale Line Dance Workshop in beautiful Gardendale, AL -


This will be a two room event with our main room being a gymnasium with a beautiful 6,000 square foot wooden dance floor!!


We are pleased to announce our Instructors:  Internationally known and award winning Frank Trace from Canton, Ohio. Joining Frank will be Michael Thompson, from Atlanta, Georgia and Vicki Pierson from Chattanooga, Tennessee. Our Music Master will be Butch Slaughter. We will also have a several vendors for your shopping pleasure.

For a couple of pairs of Dancers FOOT TUBES see your instructors.  Most instructors do carry these knit bands which help improve a marginal floor into an easier one to dance on.  Bulk quantities may be ordered at  There is a good stock available in Red; Tan; White and Black packed one dozen pair of the same color per pack.  Another 500 dozen are due in about mid February so check that web site for your needs
