                                                          VBC Southhall Heads & Tails Crawfish Boil


Remember the FREE Crawfish Boil @ VBC Southhall this Saturday.

In addition to all the food and activities, there will be Roux Du Bayou - Cajun band starting at 3 and Li’l Malcolm and the House Rockers – Zydeco band starting around 5.

Then the bands will alternate till 10.

Great Bands, food, and fun.   And it’s FREE Admission.   Hard to beat!

Lil’ Malcolm’ band personify two closely related terms:  Family and tradition.  This 5 man band centers on guitarist Percy Walker and his 2 sons, drummer Percy Walker Jr. and accordionist Lil’ Malcolm.   Inspired by legends like Buckwheat Zydeco and Rockin Dopsie, they focus on traditional Zydeco sets.

Roux du Bayou Cajun Band plays authentic cajun/zydeco/swamp pop/mardi gras music. They also incorporate some select music from motown to oldies to rock n roll and country. Their high energy style has brought them repeated engagements at a variety of quality venues

Reminder, This coming Sunday, March 25th at the Eagles, 6 PM.

Zydeco lesson at 6, beginners and intermediate. 

Then dancing from 6:45 till 8 or so.  Hope to see a lot of you there.  

We have a non-smoking venue and it's Free!


Also,  Hal will be DJ’ing a Zydeco dance at Gee's on Saturday, March 31st.  Lesson at 7 and music from 7:30-10:30.  $6 per person or $10 per couple.


Gee's is located on Highway 72 East.  Frotly after you pm the East end of I 565,  take Hwy 72 past Moores Mill Rd about 2.5 miles. Gee's is on the right shorass Oh Bryan's steakhouse, in the same building with the Big A gas station.  Parking is in the rear.

Upcoming Cajun/Zydeco Events


BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- As the Association of Cajun Music Enthusiasts –ACME- prepares to end its 20-year run of dances in Birmingham, another group has formed to take its place.

The Birmingham Cajun-Zydeco Association, organized by Rinsel Macintosh, is recruiting members and planning its first dance for June 8 at the Concordia Club. The Jambalya Cajun Band will perform at 8 p.m., according the association’s Facebook page. Ticket prices haven’t been announced.

The group is “interested in the music and dance of Southwest Louisiana,” McIntosh said via email. “BCZA sponsors dances featuring Louisiana's top Cajun and zydeco bands in the family-friendly atmosphere of the traditional ‘fais do-do.’”

Annual membership fee is $25. Email McIntosh and info spot   for more information.

If you’d like to bid farewell to ACME, its final dances are set for April 6 (with music by Ryan Brunet et Les Malfecteurs) and May 11 (with Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble) at the Concordia Club, 3400 First Ave. North

Friday, April 6: ACME's 20th Anniversary Dance with Ryan Brunet et les Malfacteurs, Cajun. Concordia Club. 8 - 11 p.m. $15.

Directions from I-59: Take the 31st Street exit (exit # 126-B) and at the traffic light turn south (towards downtown) onto 31st Street. (Note: Don't be confused by the Highway 31 exit, look for the 31st Street exit.)
31st Street you will cross 10th, 8th, 7th, and 6th Avenue, then turn left onto the Messer Airport Highway. Go one block (you will drive under two railroad trestles) and take the next right onto 33rd Street. Drive to the light and turn left onto 2nd Avenue North. Go one block then turn right onto 34th Street. Go 1/2 block and turn left into the Concordia Club driveway.
