Dancers! The Dance Club in Huntsville
needs your support.
Dancers,
The Dance Club will be celebrating its 15th anniversary
in a little more than four weeks, During the last 15
years the club has held more than750 dances and donated
more than $60,000 to various worthy causes.
As far as we have been able to determine there is no
other ballroom dance club in the US that can match us.
If you know of one, please let us hear about them.
But we have a problem.
This spring we have received a number of urgent requests
from several different charities which we have supported
in the past.. They need our help, but we don't have
sufficient funds to help them.
Part of the problem has been low attendance on band
nights. We have lost money on every band night dance
this year. We can't afford to operate this way.
We have been very careful in our choice of bands. The
Little Big Band, which will be playing Tuesday night,
is certainly one of the best bands in the South. Maybe
some of you are a little spoiled to the great dance
music they play because you have never had to try to
dance to some of the less talented musical groups that
are out there. Believe me, there is a difference!
You can us reverse this trend in low attendance by
joining us this Tuesday night at Skate Odyssey. And
bring a friend! We have something good going. Let's
keep it that way!

New Dance Venue in
Dothan
Here is a review by Sarah Fryman:
Lower Alabama Dance review - The Sashay
Dance Club on the opening night.
Pros: A place to social dance in a safe smoke free
enviroment. A large dance floor with plenty of room for
dance lessons and social dancing. The size of the dance
floor was large enough so that both the progressive dances
and stationary dances could be danced at the same time.
Plenty of paved parking for all. Tastefully decorated; I
especially appreciated the mirrored wall that was done as
a wainscoting wall. I didn't dine there but they do have
limited dining menu available should you be so inclined. Not
yet licensed for liquor but other beverages are
available. An important element of the experience was
that the staff was friendly and attentive. Most of the
management personally welcomed you and inquired as to your
general impressions.
Cons: They need a little work on a more finely adjustable
control for the lighting in the dance floor
area. Unfortunately they made the laminated flooring
mistake. Laminate flooring being what it is heats up under
the dancers rotations causing extra drag on the dancer
through turns. And also in time begins delaminating then
catching the edges of the dancers shoes. Flooring can be
changed down the road though for the real thing. The music
and sound system was okay but could be better.
Summary: Over all a very nicely put together place to
dance. Great opening night start up. They should do quite
well with a few fine adjustments. It appears that the
Sashay Dance Club has taken the local dance scene up
a level. Hooray!

Biggest dance floor?
Dancers,
Most of
you are aware of the fact that The Dance
Club's wooden dance floor at Skate Odyssey
(in Huntsville) is generally larger than any other dance
floor with which any of us are familiar.
Recently, as a matter of curiosity, I made a
very careful measurement of our floor size
and came up with a total area of 11,740
square feet. For purposes of comparison I
then searched the web for "large dance
floors". The largest dance floor I could
find was the Cubberley Pavillion at Palo
Alto, California. On their website,
www.cubberleyballroom.com
, they advertised "The biggest dance floor
anywhere". When I contacted the manager of
the Cubberley Pavillion and asked about the
actual size of their dance floor, I was
initially told 12,000 square feet, but on
further inquiry the manager admitted that
the area was actually 10,609 square feet..
Based on this result I guess that we could
lay claim to the having the biggest dance
floor in the country. Maybe we should have a
party to celebrate. What do you all think?.
